A strong connection to the environment and a focus on spaces conducive to reflection are some of the Buddhist ideals behind the architecture of the new Nan Tien Institute. The Buddhist-run tertiary institution opened its doors to the public for the first time on Sunday 28 September 2014.

The event will begin at 1:30pm at Nan Tien Temple’s Main Shrine with the ‘2014 Interfaith Festival of Music and Dance for Social Harmony’, and continue in the Temple’s conference facilities at 3:30pm with an ‘Interfaith Seminar’ – a panel discussion of representative religious groups on the topic ‘Ethics and Social Harmony: a dialogue’.

Institute (NTI) community development early this week to witness and commemorate a major construction milestone.

The Venerables performed a Buddhist Blessing ceremony as the first 14 tonne concrete slab was lowered in by cranes and positioned as part of a total of 156 slabs that will piece together to form the walls of the new development.

International Buddhism and mindfulness specialist, Dr Tamara Ditrich, will give a free lecture on ‘Buddhism Through History: From Early Beginnings to the Transnational Religion of the 21st Century’ at the Wollongong City Gallery this Wednesday evening. The lecture will be held on 7 August, 6:00 – 8:30pm. Entry is free, and all are welcome.

NTI students have recently completed the face-to-face intensive 5 day lecture component of the subject: ‘Mindfulness: Theory and Practice’. All of the students who participated rated the quality of the subject “excellent” or “very good”. All said that the subject met or exceeded their expectations.
