Professor Urban Kordes

Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of Ljubljana

Professor Urban Kordes is Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of Ljubljana. He serves as a Program Director of the Joint Interdisciplinary Masters program in Cognitive Science, and as a President of Slovenian Society for Cognitive Science.

In order to be able to empirically implement his theoretical work, Professor Kordes has studied dialogical research methods with some renewed communication theorists (H. von Foerster, P. Watzclawick, L. Duhl). Since the early 2000s most of his research attention is focused on in-depth, participatory, dialogical research of human experience (so called ¬first-person research). Together with the interdisciplinary group of scientists, he is also involved in neurophenomenological projects, attempting to correlate experiential and neurophysiological data.

Professor Kordes is a visiting Professor at the University of Vienna, Sigmund Freud University (Vienna), and University of Zagreb. His interest in parallels between Western and Eastern ways of studying the mind led to a series of interviews and joint lecture with Ryushin Paul Haller – Abbot of the San

Francisco Zen Center, at the University of California, San Francisco.

He has been a Zen practitioner for 10 years.
